Construction Equipment Used in Farming
There’s more overlap than you might think between construction equipment and farm equipment. Just as tractors are sometimes used on construction sites, many types of construction equipment have farming related uses. If you’re interested in learning more, this guide from Cascade Trader explores some of the ways that construction equipment can be used around the farm.
1. Front-End Loader
Many tractors can mount a front-end loader. This allows the tractor to more easily move loose materials, as well as lift heavy items, dig ditches, and grade land. Hydraulic attachments like these are very useful on smaller farms that need an affordable method of lifting heavy objects.
2. Excavator
Excavators are another example of construction equipment that can be used around the farm. Excavators can be used to dig ditches, foundations, and trenches. They are especially helpful if you’re planning to put up a barn or other new structure on your property. Other possible applications include building fences, clearing land, or removing weeds/grass with a rake attachment.
3. Telehandler
Telescopic handlers, often called telehandlers, can provide easy access to high-up areas. They are often used to move fallen trees, stack hay bales, or to otherwise reach places that most types of equipment can’t access. Telehandlers are very versatile and can be outfitted with a variety of different attachments, including buckets, winches, pallet forks, and muck grabs.
4. Forklift
Forklifts are most often seen in warehouses. However, they are just as useful for moving around hay bales and pallets of farm supplies as they are for moving consumer goods. These small yet powerful pieces of equipment can greatly simplify the task of moving bulky items around.
5. Skid-Steer Loader
Skid-steer loaders are another highly versatile example of construction equipment that can be used around your farm. What’s great about skid-steer loaders is the sheer variety of attachments available for them. This includes augers for drilling holes, trenchers for digging ditches, forks to grapple items, buckets for moving loose materials and brooms to sweep up debris.
